In our modern culture, we are repeatedly subjected to food advertisements on the television, radio, and the internet. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the conflicting opinions and variety of options that are presented to us each day. This book clarifies some of the most common misunderstandings about healthy eating, teaching you how to eat smart to nourish your heart.

From the Forward by Puran and Susanan Bair:

What is health?

We all know it when we see it in a person; a sparkling light in the eyes, a vibrancy, a magnetism, and a sense of dynamic wholeness are some key signs.

Health is balance. All the layers of your self-your body, your mind, your heart, and your soul-naturally seek balance, part of the innate intelligence of your being. When your body is tired, it seeks rest and replenishment; when your mind has taken in new information and experiences, it seeks a time to process and sort the data; when your heart receives new impressions, it seeks peace and stillness; when your soul feels stifled by the material world, it longs to remember its Source.

One primary way to achieve health is through your breath. We've written two books on the topic of how to use the breath to invigorate your being: Living from the Heart and Energize Your Heart in 4 Dimensions; in these books we describe the practice of Heart Rhythm Meditation, in which you breathe fully, deeply, and consciously, and balance the breath by making the inhalation and the exhalation of equal length and intensity, to experience both the give and take of life. Some of our practices involve the retention of the full inhalation, so that you can experience the dynamic peacefulness that comes when you hold your breath when your being is full of energy. To be able to hold the energy of the breath and the state of peace is to become the master of life, for the way you breathe is the way you live.

To summarize, one of the best things you can do for your health on all levels is to:

  1. breathe fully and deeply;
  2. be conscious of your breath;
  3. make your breath balanced in length and intensity; and
  4. experience both the movement of the breath and the peace (holding your breath).

Another primary way to improve your health is by changing your diet. Like the breath, we seek to make our relationship with food full, deep, conscious, balanced and peaceful.
